Social Housing Contractor
EHA Group is a main contractor building throughout the residential, commercial, hotel, student and social housing sectors in the UK, providing construction services for a diverse range of homes and buildings.
According to the Department for Communities Northern Ireland, social housing is:
“General housing for rent by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) and Registered Housing Associations (RHA) which has been provided with public subsidy.”
Today EHA Group operates mainly within the social housing sector in Northern Ireland, constructing homes for housing associations across the province. We are currently under construction for Choice, Radius, Apex and Clanmil Housing Associations.
As a main contractor, we manage the build for our clients and work diligently to deliver each project on time and in budget, often delivering ahead of schedule. We manage a team of carefully selected sub-contractors to undertake each phase of the build. We listen to our clients and the local residents and adapt to suit the needs of each project.
What do we do to help social housing communities?
As a social housing contractor, we work closely with the local community and establish open dialogue from the beginning of the project. Developing a strong level of neighbourliness means we can minimise any impact the project may have on the public and local people. Respecting the community in this way reassures our neighbours during what can be seen as a disruptive time.
On each project we minimise the impact of deliveries, parking and work on public roads. We support and contribute to the local community and economy by supporting schools with remedial or redecoration work, fixing fencing at sports clubs and often providing materials to assist in community projects.
In our social housing projects we also use local general labourers as well as utilising local suppliers as much as possible. In a recent scheme we were also able to hire a University placement student from the local community in Ballymena.
Furthermore, it is essential on all schemes that we take care with the appearance of our sites, portraying a professional and orderly image. We collaborated with local Harryville Primary School recently on a site hoarding competition with the Considerate Constructors Scheme. The artwork by the children on our surrounding site hoarding was so colourful and educational that it came Runner-Up in the UK-wide competition.
EHA Group also endeavour to protect and enhance the environment which we are working within. We seek sustainable solutions and minimise waste, carbon footprint and resources. On our current project on the Trench Road, Derry/Londonderry 21,144 tonnes of waste material was diverted from landfill. That’s twice as heavy as the Eiffel Tower!
Finally, paramount to all of our construction work as a main contractor and social housing contractor is maintaining the safety of our workers, visitors and the pubic. EHA holds ISO 18001 – Health & Safety Management System, Safe System Of Work (SSIP), ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System and ISO 9001 – Quality Management System.
Maintaining each of these actions on all of our social housing sites not only creates a positive and enduring impression for our organisation, but for the construction sector as a whole.
Current Social Housing Projects Northern Ireland
EHA Group is currently building 4 projects across NI.
In partnership with Choice Housing at Glen Road Heights, Hannahstown, West Belfast the group is building 92 much needed new homes. These will accommodate more than 350 people and will play a major role in meeting the growing demand for local housing in the West Belfast area.
90 new homes are almost complete on the Springfield Road, Belfast in partnership with Radius Housing and Pan Residential. These homes will hugely benefit the local area, while the regeneration project will also improve the overall image of the Springfield Road and adjoining Springfield Avenue.
Also in Downpatrick, EHA is under construction of 31 new social homes at the site of the old Downe Hospital. These homes will be handed over to Clanmil Housing Association in early 2020, bringing new life to the old, derelict Hospital site.
Finally on the Trench Road, Derry / Londonderry, EHA is building 78 social houses for Apex Housing Association. The final homes will be handed over in the next few months.
